Ugh.

This one is...meh. I've been having the hardest time with her damn hair, especially that side view. It looks like it makes no sense, haha. (And it probably doesn't.)

Here's the protagonist of the story, Svetlana. Lana is seventeen years old and comes from the rougher side of the tracks. Sent to live with her grandmother, she befriends the selkie, Marmaduke (below). Together they grow and learn what it means to face the world/mature. So basically it's going to be one of my tell-tale coming-of-age stories.

I'm not very creative when it comes to character design, so this was hard as balls. There's a few things about her I want to fix, but other than that, it's just concept art, so I'll probably do more sketches and shit before I get down to the main meat. None of them look alike... Argh.

For Whom the Man Drowns

A character I adopted from an egg on DeviantART--a selkie! I think I'm going to use him for a comic in which he becomes entangled with a young teenage girl who steals his pelt and he learns some damn humility.

This selkie doesn't have a name pronounceable in our tongues, so the girl gives him the nickname of Marmaduke (pending). He is a Californian harbor seal who is a complete narcissist only in love with himself. He enjoys drowning women and has a reputation in the area for doing so. He can often be found staring at himself in some reflective surface, which was the inspiration for this picture other than a character model. I imagine he's staring at himself in a mirror or glass.

I tried to practice making him look the same from all angles. The first picture was an experiment with drawing him on the computer from a concept sketch I did in my sketchbook, so it doesn't quite fit in with the others. Uhhh... Well, they all kind of don't look like they fit in with each other!

A Rose for a Rose 2

Whereas yesterday I had problems with getting Runako to look like a man, today I had problems with getting Rose to look like an eleven-year old girl. But I guess I got close enough. Need some constructive critique though because...I can't draw children and it's damn hard getting references of them and artistic lessons on them!

Put them together. :) Runako and Rose!

A Rose for a Rose

So proud of this piece. And just proud of myself in general. I just feel like I am improving so much; this doesn't even look like the shit I used to draw a few months ago when I got burnt out!

This is my character I haven't drawn since like, eighth grade, Runako, who is an assassin. He looks a little girly in this picture. :/ It looked MANLY but then when I added the hair, the MANliness disappeared. So fuck it.

I might try to ink it. I seem to just give up whenever it comes to inking something. It's so involved and I'm so impatient! Maybe if this was on paper...

Saria of the Leaves

I'm going to try and render this in coloured pencil.

Wish me luck oh god

BY JOVE.

I'm going to start doing these every day (or at least trying to). Drawing gesture and figure drawings on my tablet to practice getting used to drawing with it (I usually draw on paper, scan it in, and then color underneath the line art). It was surprisingly fun if not a bit weird (argh, such sketchy lines!), but I think if I keep it up, I will see improvement. This was a 60-minute drawing, timed, with a randomly generated reference. :D Anatomy looks wonky but... I'm working on it!
